Darley Small Group: Bible Study group at CU IV

Daniel, Jing, Aris, Grace: Core members of Darley Bible Study Small Group in CU IV

We started small, but we are growing and we are praying and working to impact the whole dorm with our community and Jesus! Each week we have had new people attend. Several students who do not follow Christ or have never read the bible have attended. We have had great discussion and missional activities. We  started handing out cookies and throwing game nights in the dorm to bless people and build more community. Our prayer is that we would be transformed as we renew this dorm and the people around us. Last night we went on a prayer walk and asked people in the dorm who may never come to bible study what we could pray for them for.

Adventures with Students: Hiking the Flatirons!

Hiking the Flatirons with CU IV students!

Prayers for IV September 2012

Prayers: Please join me in lifting these up to God

·         Praise be to God for:
o   Faithfulness of CU IV students in giving their time, money and gifts for the kingdom.
o   New students we met who are interested
o   The hope of Jesus changing this campus

·         Let us give these burdens and hopes to you Lord:
o   Students who are not Christians open up to bible and InterVarsity
§  International students (Especially: Jerry, Kun, Takahiko, & Nozomi)
o   Freshmen make their faith their own
o   New Bible studies in the dorms and off campus (Especially mine in Darley)
o   Raising up missional Christian freshmen to impact their dorm
o  God speaks truth and wisdom to me as I prepare for and give my first sermon October 4 (Thursday @7pm) on our Christian identity as witnesses.

Transition for the IV fellowship at CU!

This has also been a time of transition for InterVarsity here at CU as they are starting new ministries including bible studies in the dorms to reach freshmen. In the first week of outreach InterVarsity at CU has met and gotten contact information from over 200 new students who are interested in joining our group including students of many nationalities, ethnicities and religious backgrounds. One freshmen Briana decided to start following Jesus for the first time when we shared the gospel with her. This year one of my roles will be coleading a freshmen bible study in two dorms (Darley N&S towers) with Aris a student leader and Jing.

Transition in my life!

August was a time of transition as I said goodbye to Evergreen and Golden and I moved to Boulder, CO. I started working full time for InterVarsity at CU as my first full time job. This has been a challenging time stepping into my new role. I have had many times of joy as well as mistakes that are helping me grow. I am blessed by my staff team, by all of you my supporters and by every gift of God!

Here is a picture of my intern staff team with InterVarsity hanging out
(Left to right: Ivanna, Bridget, Kathryn, Tom)

One of the hardest transitions have been managing my time without a set schedule. I am struggling to learn to use my time effectively for the kingdom and to include time for fun and rest. Fortunately my intern team and I live next to each other, so we have the chance to hang out and get away from the challenges of a life of ministry especially at Boulder. Boulder is definitely a place where the distractions of this world get in the way of people and Jesus. Drugs, alcohol, success, image, relationships are all worshiped in that people give their time and money to them above God.

Another transition is from student involved in InterVarsity to staff. Many of the roles are similar but with subtle transitions. Sometimes I feel trapped, wanting to have more of a role and sometimes the roles I have seem overwhelming.
